THE JAMMU AND KASHMSIR STATE BOARD OF SCHOOL EDUCATION

ACADEMIC DIVISION, REHARI COLONY, JAMMU/ BEMINA BYE PASS SRINAGAR.

Curriculum Development and research wing of J&K BOSE acts as the nerve centre of the organization is associated with a variety of activities. In addition to Development of Curriculum and Courses of Studies by inviting academicians from different strata of Education both from state and National level , CDR wing has been associated with framing new policies regarding conduct of examinations, Revision of Rules and Regulations governing the functioning of the organization, conduct of NTSE/NMMS Examinations, Implementation of Centre Sector Scholarship Schemes and providing opinion to different wings regarding matters of academic nature. CDR wing has two division offices none each at Srinagar and Jammu having 4-5 Academic officers of different subjects.

Activities completed by Academic Division

  • The syllabi and Courses of Studies for Classes IX, X, XI and XII have been revised in the light of National Curriculum Framework (NCF-2005), so as to have uniformity in the education system throughout the country. This will facilitate our students to compete at National and International Level.
  • New scheme of combination of subjects at + 2 stage to reduce the number of examination days.
  • Adoption of Core Curriculum at Plus 2 stage.
  • J&K BOSE has introduced various frontline subjects like Bio-Technology , Information Practices, Computer Sciences, Bio-Chemistry, Functional English, Applied mathematics, Entrepreneurship, Tour Travel and Hotal Management, Microbiology, Public Administration etc at + 2 stage. The introduction of these subjects is because of the diversification in the Eduction System.
  • The revised textbooks based on NCF-2005, phase I and Phase II are being transacted in the classes. About 115 titles have been revised as per NCF 2005. Only a few titles under phase three are in the pipeline and shall be completed by the end of 2016. Textbooks in English Interaction haven been replaced by Tulip Series uotp class 10th. A new series called Merry Maths has been introduced in Mathematics upto class 12th. Similarly the titles of Hindi textbooks for class 11th & 12th have been named as Mansar.
  • Textbooks ( History Geography and Civics)  from 7th  8th classes , as per NCF 2005 haven been contextualized .
  • Text material of Financial literacy/Economics and Disaster Management component has  also been included in social Studies of Class 9th and 10th. And introduced in Kashmir as well as in Jammu Division.
  • Textual material of Political Science replacing Civics included in Social Studies of Class 9th & 10th from the current academic session Kashmir/Jammu Division.
  • Whole syllabus of Home Science Elective and Home Science Full stream in Class 11th  have also revised for current academic session 2014-15.
  • Revised Textbooks of History & Political Science  for class 6th has been developed for the current Academic Session 2015-16  and 2016-17 Winter/Summer zone.
  • Revised Text book of Geography for class 10th has been developed for the Current Academic session  2015-16 and 2016-17 (Winter/Summer Zone)
  • Revised textbook of Hindi  for class 8th has also been developed  for the ensuing  Academic Session 2016-17 for Summer Zone.
  • Syllabi has been prepared and developed  for newly introduced subject (Public Administration) for classes 11th and 12th  for ensuing Academic Session 2015-16 and 2016-17 Winter/Summer Zones.
  • Whole syllabi for Home Science (Elective) and Home Science (Full stream) for class 12th  have also been revised
  • Economics  part of Social Science for Class 9th and 10th has been revised  for the current Academic Session 2015-16 and 2016-17.

Languages

  • Textbooks of Kashmiri from Ist to 12th classes have been developed/revised and are being transacted in the class rooms.
  • Textbooks of Punjabi from Ist to 5th class have been developed/revised whereas textbooks for classes 6th to 8th are in pipeline.
  • Textbooks of Bhoti from Ist to 10 classes have been developed/revised and are being transacted  in the class rooms, whereas textbooks for classes 11th to 12th are in pipeline.
  • Textbooks of Hindi from 1st to 12th classes have been developed/revised except for class 8th which is in pipeline.
  • Textbooks of urdu named Baharistan Urdu from Ist to 12th classes have been developed/revised and are being transacted in the class rooms.
  • Textbooks of Dogri from Ist to 12th classes have been developed/revised and are being transacted in the class rooms.
  • Textbooks of Gojri and Phari from Ist to 5th classes have  been  developed/revised and are being transacted in the class rooms.
  • Preparation of Academic/Examination calendar for all the Divisions i.e. Jammu(summer Zone/Winter Zone), Kashmir , Leh and Kargil .
  • Implementation of Examination reforms in totality as suggested in National Curriculum Framework (NCF-05) in Public Examinations.
  • Introduction of single Paper System  Scheme with three different series for class 10th and 12th examination as per National policy on Eduction. This will de-stress the students who usually remain stressed because of long examination periods. New pattern of questions have been introduced to evaluate the students in better manner having long, short, very short and objective type answers.

Introduction of Grading System in classes 9th and 10th

  • Availability of Board Act, Rules and Regulations and Seniority list of employees of organization on web site i.e. www.jkbose.co.in for transparency and information.
  • Interpretation/opinion regarding different subjects.
  • Abandoned restriction of chances for completing an examination to the best advantage of the students.
  • Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation Scheme (CCES)  documents revised: The four documents of CCE from I-V, VI-VIII, IX-X, XI-XII have been revised and has been distributed to all the DIETs, Schools free of cost.
  • Workshops for developing textbooks of Information practices, and  Business  Studies  have been conducted and the text material are under pipeline.

SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME IMPLEMENTED BY ACADEMIC DIVISION

The Academic Division is looking after following Centrally Sponsored Scholarship Schemes.

NMMS (National Means cum Merit Scholarship): the objective of the scheme is to award Scholarship to meritorious students studying in Government Schools only and to economically weaker sections and reserved category stueents of the society studying in class VIII and to encourage them to continue their studies. Under this scholarship scheme 1091 students of J&K State are to be selected after passing the said NMMS examination with the eligibility of having passed class VII and studying in class VIII. The State quota of 1091 Scholarships is to be distributed among 22 districts as per the norms of Ministry of Human Resource Development, (MHRD)New Delhi. The selected students get scholarship from class IX and continue till class XII @ Rs.6000.00 per annum, which is distributed after proper verification quarterly through nearby branches of State Bank of India and its associated Branches.

NTSE ( National Talent Search Examination) NTSE is flagship activity of NCERT, New Delhi aimed at identifying talent at a very young age. The purpose of this examination is to explore hidden talent in students and nurture it. This examination is meant for students from Govt. and private schools studying in class 10th.

INSPIRE ( Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research): Performance in top 1% in class XII J&K BOSE Examination and enrolment into education in Basic and Natural Science courses at B.Sc/Integrated M.Sc or Ms levels, qualify automatically for scholarship for Higher education of Govt. of India (GOI) valued @ 80,000 per year for five years.

  • Centre Sector Scholarship Scheme (CSSS). The Department of Higher Eduction has introduced a new scheme for meritorious students from low income families going to College/universities for implementation during the XI Five Year Plan period with an approved outlay of Rs. 1000 crore. This is a Central Sector Scheme titles” Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and Universities Students. The eligible meritorious students above 80th percentile in ‘|General, Sc and ST categories are awarded an amount of Rs. (10,000) Ten thousand per annum for three years and @ Rs 20,000 for further two years of post graduation. The Scholarship is awarded in the ratio of 3:2:1 to the students who pass their examination in Science, Commerce and Arts respectively. The scholarship are distributed in the ratio of I:1 among Boys and Girls. There are 768 scholarship slots available for the students of J&K .
  • Special Scheme for physically Challenged students: Dhirubhai Ambani foundation provides scholarship to top ten physically challenged students.

Adolescent Education Project: the J&K State

Adolescent Cell of J&K State BOSE has restarted functioning from the last year i.e. from 2010 after it remained inactive due to stoppage of funds by NCERT. However during the current financial year J&KBOSE has once again infused fresh blood into the programme . various activities viz Role Play, competitions, Flock song/Dance competition, Training/orientation programme, Advocacy and material development were carried out on different themes of AEP like, Gender equality, process of growing up, charms & challenges of adolescence, HIV/AIDS-stigmatization and substance/Drug abuse etc. The project is being sponsored by HRD Ministry, Govt. of India and monitored by NCERT, New Delh.

J & K State Open School:

Virtually Govt. of J&K had notified for open schooling way back in 2001. It is during the lost year, after a gap of 13 years J&K BOSE has taken initiative to implement the scheme in 38 Govt. Schools as study centres in as many district across the state. Notification to this effect was issued in 2014 for submission of prescribed application forms. To begin with each study centre shall have an intake capacity of 160 students to be admitted in class 10th. Admission to class 12th shall be started after successful establishment of JKSOS. The textual material has also distributed according to actual admission data to the Study Centres. The State Open School is going to cater to the educational needs of those who are:

  • Unable to get entry onto the formal system of education due to one reason ot the other
  • School drop-outs
  • Older persons
  • Persons in employment to enhance their chances of promotion,
  • Disadvantaged groups
  • Failures from the formal system of education etc.The courses of study for open schooling are tailor made and are different from the ones which are in vogue for formal education.

The first batch of State open School Examination session 2014-15 of Class 10th was successfully conducted and the result has been declared.

National Vocational Education Qualification Framework (NVEQF) is being implemented in the State as per the MHRD guidelines from the current academic session. Four Vocational Courses viz: IT & ITes,, Automobile Technology, Retail and Security are the vocational courses identified for 132 schools across the state. Each school shall have a choice of 2 vocational Courses to be implemented from Class 9th, the first level of NVEQF. The syllabi have been placed on the BOSE website and the job of engagements of contractual teachers in their respective district has been assigned to the concerned Chief Education officers. The funding of the porogramme by MHRD shall be through RMSA.
